One Of The Great Artists: King Arthur

January 31, 2008

After reading to Eeyore the story of King Arthur and Excalibur, I asked him some questions to see how much of it he “got.”"How did Arthur become a King?”"He was able to draw on the rock that no one else could.”"What? Draw on it?”"Yeah, he drew a picture of a sword on the rock and nobody else was able to.”Maybe when I said that lots of people tried to draw the sword from the rock and only Arthur was able to do so, I should have explained that “draw” does not mean “with a crayon” in some instances.

Ha ha ha…well, they catch up. The more you read to them, the faster they realize – you know, that doesn’t make sense. It probably means something else. I know I practically learned the English language from reading books – lots and lots of books. But then, I loved to read, so maybe that’s why. But kudos to you for reading the classics!

Btw, have you read any Arnold Lobel books to your kids? I know Eeyore might be a little old for that, but the baby might like it. I grew up on Arnold Lobel books, like Frog and Toad, Mouse Tales, etc. If you haven’t heard of them, check them out – they’re so funny, so cute and innocent. There’s even a taped Frog and Toad version with Mr. Lobel himself voicing the story – it really is fantastic and highly recommended. :)

    That’s cute.

I remember when I was small and feeling so confused by the road signs that said, “Do Not Pass.” I wondered why the road just kept going if you weren’t supposed to pass the sign and why no one seemed to obey that darn sign in the first place. When my mom told me that it meant do not pass other cars, I felt so dumb. But really, “Do Not Pass.” Be more specific!
