It appears as though I am about to be old. Officially old. In just two weeks I’ll be turning 26. Which, if you round up, is actually 30. (Yes, I know I should have been rounding this year as well, because 25 rounded is actually 30, but DENIAL!) Oh, dear God.
So far, though, it sounds as if 26 is going to be a pretty good year.
Cleatus and I married so young and had kids so young that we’ve always been on the poor side of things. Not actually POOR, but we’ve never had extra money. We’re suddenly in a much better place and, for that reason, 26 is gonna be good. (Assuming I don’t fall over dead from old age.)
We have a “fantasy suite” booked at a hotel for my birthday. Its a space room with a circular bed with all this chrome and flashy lights so it looks like a UFO. (No, Mom. No, Kim. This does not mean I believe in ALIENS.) It has a fancy jacuzzi with more flashy lights and stuff.
But where is the stripper pole?
We have plans for Eeyore’s birthday in April to go to Medieval Times and this museum that I have been wanting to go to since Eeyore was 3 years old. We’re going to stay in another hotel, this time with a couple of good old fashioned rectangular beds and two squirmy kids who will no doubt request to sleep not together but with one of us each. And we will let them.
THEN! In June we are going to the Smoky Mountains, thanks to Gina, Pam, Heather, and Melissa for suggesting it way back when I begged for suggestions. I think we’ve finally got our cabin chosen and we are booking it today! WOOT! (I previously swore never to use that term, but felt that it was warranted in this situation.)
And in September? We are going to Aspen for a week to attend a wedding.
For a family that has only been on one other “real” vacation together this is an exciting year. Sure, we’ve done overnights and things like that, but this trip to the Smokies is our first REAL vacation ALONE as a little FAMILY. I can’t wait. (I also can’t wait to bump my head on the ceiling of that circular bed.)
What exciting plans do you have for this year?

Say It!
26 (or even 30) is not old. It CAN’T be, since I’ll be turning 40 this year.
We reached that “I can afford vacation” not too long ago, too and it felt damned good. We always managed a vacation, but only because we had family living in vacation areas. The first time we went somewhere and actually paid for lodging, we felt like grown-ups for the first time.
This year, we are heading back to Disney, plus a short trip to VA Beach for a family graduation. Since Disney is my favorite place, I have decided it’s necessary to reward myself with a trip in between the years I go on vacation with 60 in-laws. Fair trade, I say.

Wow! It sounds like a fun year.
(and please, don’t say 26 is old or my 34 year old butt may have to kick yours)
Love the Smokies. We’re going back for a vacation this spring.
Also, the alien bed…..ummmm.

Um, I agree with Queen of Shake Shake…make that two 34 year olds kicking your young butt.
It’s just 26, my dear…not like 30 or *gasp* 35 which I am being told will happen to me in about 3 weeks. I’m in denial. I cannot possibly be THAT old!

Uh, let me say congratulations on the vacations while I smack you upside your wrinkle free head. I am 36.
THIRTY-SIX. And I’m not even old yet, I’m just not young anymore. You, however, are still in your prime.

We took ONE amazing vacation, before kids #3 and #4 arrived, to the Grand Weilea in Hawaii… we still talk about it, years later!
Have a terrific vacation and Happy Pre-Birthday!

Hey, happy birthday! And OMG, I had NO idea you were so young! That makes me feel great–I turn 26 in a few months
Anywho, travel plans for 2008:
April–Indiana for a wedding
May–Florida for a short visit (maybe)
June–Alabama for a wedding (maybe)
July–Germany for TWO WEEKS
December–Hawaii for a wedding (maybe)
I know, sounds like an exciting life, right?

You’ve got one exciting year planned! I think it’s awesome. Family vacations are important, although we won’t be taking one this year. We’re having a baby instead. Our goal is to take a big Disney vacation when Lucy is 3 and Julia is 6. Until then, it will probably be short trips here and there. It’s harder to travel when the kids are so small. It’ll be fun to get to the place where we can really go somewhere and everyone can enjoy it!

Jerseygirl, I have wrinkles. Oh yes I do. I also have GRAY HAIRS. Motherhood is a bitch.

L the D, Dang. You put my vacation plans to shame. I’ve never been out of the country (sob, sob) so Germany sounds awesome!

Leslie, I hear ya on not traveling this year. Itty bitty babies are enough of a pain without dragging them across the country.
Not that I wouldn’t babysit Lucy for you should you decide to go on vacation. Julia too, for that matter. Especially if she’d sing that buttercup song for me.

Yeah….um I’m with Gina on that one. I’ll be for…f…fort…what she said up there, in November! Oi!
I think we’re probably heading over the pond (that would be to the Motherland, the UK) to see family and such and bring back more of our crap! Oh joy, a 9 hour flight with a TODDLER…which begs the question, do I just bring enough valium for me, or would that be poor etiquette to not have enough to offer other passengers on the plane? Something tells me that just buying a round of drinks for the other passengers wouldn’t be enough.
And if it does not stop snowing I am taking said Toddler (the teenager is doing her own thing) and packing up the SUV and heading to someplace warm, with sun…and sand, and cold drinks with umbrellas in them!
Alas, we may sell out and head to Disneyworld in the late autumn when the BIL/SIL and offspring head this way from the other side of the pond and come and visit us. Just another reason to rejoice…a toddler in the House of Mouse. Um on second thought, I’m saving all the valium for ME!

26? And you’ve accomplished SO much already! I’d say it’s just about time for you guys to do a nice family vaca. It’s easier to travel when the rats are a little older anyway.
We’re going to South Carolina in July (yeah, more heat than in Florida, just what we needed) but it’s a week long baseball tournament, Summer Nationals. We’re going with all of our baseball friends so it’ll actually be a blast. Other than that, as you know we already did the cabin thing. LOVED every stinkin minute of it, even the tacky black bear candle holder. Which museum is it that you’re going to?

I always said I would never, ever, be a whiner and get uppity when someone younger than me complained about their age. Cause that’s what I always got being a young mom…
But 26? Really. Bite me.
30 is coming. Yes it is. It’s the birthday you realize you could kick any 19 year old’s ass (male of female) and you like that just fine. It’s also the year that you realize you can’t drink tequila like you used to and then spend the second day of your thirties puking and wishing you were dead.
Or was that just me?

Chantal, I know, I know. I shouldn’t whine, but its just so much fun to hear all the old folk bitch at me for it.
And I already can’t drink like I used to. I was just mentioning that fact to my husband this morning after we played a game of cards for shots of vodka last night! We’re wild and crazy ’round here. Oh yes, we are. Rummy and vodka. I might only be 26, but I ACT old.

Mmm. End of this month we have a wedding in KC, and have to go to Chicago for work (scenic Joliet anyway). May is Houston/Galveston, July is San Fran, pending. After that, probably home the rest of the year cuz all the money will be gone!

I had a HARD time with 26! Now, 11 years later, I think what the heck was my problem???
We’re going to central IL for a few weeks (the kiddos and I, FG will only be there for a week at most) in July. Whoohoo, humidity here we come.
Then a couple of weekends away at a lake a few hours away over the summer.
Then Mexico in the fall for our friend’s 50th Birthday. THAT is when you start to feel old - when you start attending more 40, 45 & 50 birthdays and you wonder where the 21, 25 & 30 birthdays went!
By A Mom Anonymous on 03.05.08 10:43 am | Permalink
Amy! We should totally get together when your here. We could take the kids to the park or screw the kids and go out to dinner or something!
And if being able to attend a birthday party in Mexico means I have to be 50 years old, then I’ll take it. I would love to do something big like that for a birthday!

What is WRONG with you women? Every year, I get less dumb. So I celebrate! Why would anyone want to be younger?? Y’all should stop reading those magazines with the teenaged models in them, and really go and look in the mirror. See that gray hair? Do you realise how hard you worked for it? What, you want to cover up those wrinkles, your certificates of wisdom and hilarity? Get a grip! I look at twenty year olds, and pity them. SO THERE!!!

Hi! I just found your blog (can’t even remeber how I got here - lots of clicking on links of my favorite blogs’ favorite blogs). Anyway, the Space Odyssey suite is about a mile from my house. You will LOVE it! All of their fantasy suites are really cool. I spent my wedding night in Wine & Roses (it was Cupid’s Haven way back then). Enjoy your time in our humble little town! Let me know if you want any dining recommendations!
