Do you all remember back in October when I got a speeding ticket on Cleatus’s birthday? (Of course not. I barely remember that far back and IT’S MY LIFE.) Well, I got a speeding ticket back in October on Cleatus’s birthday. It was the best birthday present he received, obviously.
Fast forward to January and guess what I did. I got ANOTHER speeding ticket. Seriously, y’all, I have speeding issues. That, and I think the city is broke and they are trying to make up for it by ticketing every little person they see that goes even a teensy little bit over the speed limit (19 miles over for the first one and 14 miles over for the second! Totally should have gotten off with a warning! Heh.) to make them spend all their hard earned money on tickets and court costs and insurance increases! It’s total crap, man.
All in all, I spent $325 on the two tickets. My court supervision just ended last week, but if I get another ticket between now and October? I lose my license for 3 months. That would suck, yo.
I was smart when I broke the news about the second ticket to Cleatus. I waited for witnesses (his family) and for him to ask me for something (if I minded if he spent the next day hanging out with his brothers instead of catering to my every whim and desire). But, Cleatus was still all YOU DID WHAT? YOU GOT ANOTHER TICKET? WHEN WILL YOU LEARN? WHY DID I MARRY YOU? WHAT THE FUCK? and I was all BUT BABY, I LOOOOOOVE YOU AND PLEASE DON’T BE MAD AT MEEEEEEE! and he forgave me and we went back to our normal lives.
And by “normal lives” I mean that every time we went anywhere together I would watch the speedometer while Cleatus was driving and wait very patiently for him to FINALLY get a damn speeding ticket so that I could get over the guilt I had.
Last week? He got a ticket! His first ticket in something like five years! I was in the car with him when he got pulled over and, honestly, I’m surprised the officer didn’t make me take a drug test. I laughed and snorted and giggled and cackled the entire time Cleatus was being written up. Cleatus didn’t find it nearly as funny as I did.
Sure, we could have spent that $75 on something fun and exciting, but I’m happy just knowing that he can no longer roll his eyes about my driving or remind me to drive slowly in that mean little voice he uses when he’s acting all smug and better than me.
If he gets another ticket I’ll have to kill him though. We can only afford for one of us to run up hundreds of dollars worth of court costs. We have bills to pay, you know.

Your area is insane with tickets! My cousin is finally getting his license back after a year for doing just what you did. So no, I don’t recommend you get another one anytime soon unless you want YOUR mom carting you around like my aunt has had to do with her grown son taking him out to the CC every.damn.day.
Hee hee on the sweet revenge though – totally worth the $75!

I seem to remember something about revenge and serving it cold…Hmm. Can’t quite put my finger on it.
Same thing happened with us. I got one speeding ticket and one “improper turn at a red light” ticket within a month. Wifey goes on and on about how it’s ludicrous that I can’t control myself better behind the wheel, and how are we going to pay for this tickets. etc. etc. etc.
Then in a two week span, she gets a speeding ticket herself and a ticket for running a red light (darn red light cameras). Tee-hee!

lots of cities everywhere are stepping up ticketing (and fine prices) to make up for being broke. I hate it. It’s like another freaking bill in our house.
you can’t even put your bumper in a handicapped spot or over a ramp anymore without getting the $350 ticket. it was never like that before. and I live in Philadelphia, where we don’t have our own parking spots.
plus, everyone is buying trucks and SUVs bc they are so inexpensive now(hello! we live in the city!) and there are no parking spots left. it sucks.

Last year, I went through a red light. Hey, nobody was around and I figured what the hell??
The next month I got a ticket in the mail for $75 and I even got to watch myself on video. How fun!
Now I stop at those lights and I go the speed limit because I have gotten 2 tickets and each one was almost $200.

Ah, isn’t it gratifying. I love when my husband messes up so I can feel less bad about all the times I have messed up. Maybe someday we will avoid messing up altogether…probably not though.

If I comment on your post, and get a ticket in the next couple weeks, I’m blaming you for jinxing me. I haven’t had a ticket in years, even though I drive like a maniac. I even have the little extension sticker on my license that means I’m a good driver, so I don’t have to renew my license for a few more years.

This reminds me of the time that I broke the mirror backing out of the garage. And broke it again two weeks later.
The next month? Hubby hit a tree. . .in an empty parking lot which is what finally killed that car.
Hah. What goes around. . .

It’s nice when situations seem to balance out. I (knock on wood) have never been pulled over for speeding. My husband used to get pulled over A LOT before he realized that is was getting expensive.

I got a speeding ticket 5 years ago and my husband still bitches about it. Every time we go someplace together I pray he gets pulled over and ticketed, too. I know I’d be laughing and snorting and cackling the whole time. God, that would be awesome.

Babe, you know I love you, right?
I lost my license for POINTS, not a DUI, not MURDER, but POINTS back in 2002. I lost it for 12 MONTHS. Don’t do it! (sorry for my last drunken message, I thought I was being helpful, not stupid, sorry). Any way, I lost my license for 7 over, 12 over, failure to stop at a sign (apparently the white frame does NOT mean it’s optional), and 4 over. BE CAREFUL! And then laugh at Cletus for me!
BTW I just rented a house in Houston with a pool and 3 guest bedrooms, so come on!

I’m actually surprised that I haven’t gotten a ticket yet. I know I’ve sped a few times. Apparently I have a lead foot. And now my car tells me so. We recently bought a hybrid and it basically tells you off if you push the gas too much.

I can always take solace in the fact that I can still berate you both, but nothing was as bad as your brother. I remember me and him having a debate about speeding and how speeding on the interstate at 11 at night was dangerous and as fast as he was going he was going to get in trouble, then a month later “Hey can I get a ride to work I lost my license”
The speeders always come crawwwwwwwwwwwwwwling back

My partner doesnt actually have his license so I do all of the driving… And when he gets that holier than thou voice on and says something like, “You know the speed limit is 50/70/90 here, going a little fast, eh?” I want to pull over, shut off the van, go around and shove the keys directly into the middle of his forehead.
