Sell Out

Then and Now.

June 9, 2009

I just found this in my drafts folder from a couple of months ago:

I’m trying this new thing and it’s actually working kind of well so I thought I’d share it with all of you.

First, you do a load of laundry the normal way. You know, put the clothes in the wash, put the clothes in the dryer. Easy, right? Here’s where it gets tricky! Instead of taking the clothes out of the dryer and moving them to the laundry room floor a laundry basket, you actually take them into the living room or bedroom or wherever and you FOLD them. After you fold them you put them away in the appropriate dresser drawer. It’s really kind of amazing how handy it is to have clothes folded up and put away where they belong instead of in a big heap on the laundry room floor in the laundry basket!

I’m obviously a housekeeping genius, so I thought I’d share my knowledge with you all. I’m using this blog for the greater good, you see.

I don’t think I need to tell you all that the laundry? It is sitting on the laundry room floor in a laundry basket right now. I think I lasted about a week before I realized that it’s really not worth all the extra effort of folding things and putting them away if people are just going to pull them out and then WEAR THEM AND MAKE THEM DIRTY AGAIN. Can you believe the nerve of my family? Wearing my freshly laundered and folded clothes? It’s enough to make a person crazy.

So, now my advice to you is this: Hire a housekeeper.

Ha! This is funny because after spending literally days last week tackling the laundry situation that had taken over house — including a three, yes THREE, hour folding session — this week, I’m all about doing at least one load of laundry every day. And by doing I mean, washing, drying, folding and putting away. So far I have to say I’m damn awesome at it. Two whole days! Pretty impressive, right?

Mine sit in the laundry basket for like 2 weeks, then i run out of clothes and i wear them all wrinkled from the basket, then i run out of space in the floor so i dump all of the clean clothes back out at a random location and fill the basket back up with dirties

Oh my gosh! It’s brilliant! You. Are. A. Genius. :)

I get the laundry washed and dried. BUT it just ends up in baskets. Lots of baskets. I mean with 4 kids, I barely have time to think let alone fold. I need a housekeeper or a nanny or less kids.

I know! It’s as stupid as making the beds!

I have got the whole washing/drying/folding thing down pat. Because I fold laundry as I sit on my ass and watch TV. It’s the ‘putting away’ part I struggle with. I currently have 7 piles on the chair in my den.

    I want a housekeeper……

The only reason our laundry is currently getting folded is because we are moving, and it’s easier to pack boxes with folded laundry. Otherwise, it sits in the basket. Or doesn’t even get dressed yet….

I have an extra sofa just to hold the piles of clean laundry that will NEVER get folded. Only pulled out of the pile and worn until there are only stray pieces of clothes scattered about on the sofa.
I think a housekeeper might take one look at my bathroom and run, screaming in fear.
    I hate housecleaning.
    I’d rather do dishes.

If only I could. I’m pretty sure that folding laundry is without a doubt the suckiest household task. Right up there with cleaning terlits.

Here’s the system that’s worked for me for about a year now –
I bought each kid their own laundry basket. When a load of laundry is dry, I fold it right out of the matching & place in their basket. I have one basket for me & my hubs. I will put away our laundry but the kid’s are responsible for putting theirs away. Needless to say, they are always going down to the laundry room to get something to wear. :)

At least you know which basket has the clean clothes in it. I’m always getting, “Is this clean or dirty?”

My answer: “Smell it and find out.”

Right after I’ve folded and put all of our laundry, my 3 year old likes to take everything out of the drawers and make a pile in the middle of the floor. I should really just give it up.

    Wow…that’s a novel approach.

For us personally we just take the clothes out of the dryer and put them straight on our bodies. You have no idea how much time and energy that saves. Gee, come to think of it, I don’t even know why I bother with dressers, closets or even coat hangers any more? *lol*

I’ve got 5 baskets of laundry sitting in my bedroom that need folded. I think i’ll just have the kids come get their clothes out of said baskets and go throw them on their own floors. Atleast then I dont have to look at it anymore.

    Dude, my advice:

    put your children to work.

Who gives a shit if the clothes are folded right or not? I mean, who’s going to wear them after all, right?

And if the clothes are all wrinkled and people start looking at your kids and judging you as a mom, then, well… we all know the answer to that…

Clearly they have never read this blog. If they had, they would know all too well about your parenting finesse.

I like to fold it all and leave it on the coffee table so the kids can knock it all over while they rummage around for whatever they want. Good times.

I have heard of people who do this…
My son finds it easier to just keep all his clothes in the basket and never put them away. I’m considering using his dresser as firewood this summer.

Totally hilarious and um yeah, just need to convince DH that a housekeeper is a good investment. After all, if I’m not too tired from looking at the mess maybe I’ll be in the mood at little more often, right?!
