Sell Out

We Might Not Have Christmas Cards, But We Have Love. (I can’t believe I just said that. Puke!)

November 24, 2009

I generally don’t send Christmas cards. I know, I hear you all wagging your fingers at me. Its not that I have no Christmas spirit (my Christmas tree is already up I have so much Christmas spirit!), it’s just that I’m too lazy. There is all the searching for the perfect card, writing heartfelt bullshit inside the cards, digging up addresses for everyone, addressing the cards, going to the post office to purchase stamps, and finally walking all the way down my loooooong driveway to put the envelopes in the mail.

Baby Jesus wouldn’t want me to strain myself, you know? So I just don’t send cards.

This year, however, I decided that I would send out cards, but not just any generic store bought card, I was going to send out PICTURE CARDS. Because I am insane.

Here are just a few of the pictures from our little holiday card picture taking session we had in the backyard this afternoon:

silly faces web

No.

em and lij giggling web

Nope.

goofy leaf web

Huh uh.

em and elijah web

Uh, no.

em and lij web

Gettin’ closer.

em and lijah web

Almost there!

Sadly, this story has no happy ending. I didn’t get the perfect holiday card picture. I do love all the above pictures though, just because it shows how much those two love each other and what fun they have together.

How about you? Are you all mature and responsible? Do you send out holiday cards?

Call me lame, but I like picture Christmas cards! But I don’t like just plain old Christmas cards. It’s like getting a birthday card without money in it. What’s up with that?

I actually really like the second one! Could totally put a smile on my face if I got that one in the mail.

I actually like the pictures that AREN’T perfect. I would make a collage of some of the photos you posted and make that your card.
I like seeing people’s real kids, not the studio-fake-backdrop-canned photos.
    I love yours!

I always stress about which photo to use on our Holiday cards. I still don;t have one yet and this post of yours is starting to make me real nervous. I have some cute photos from this summer but sundresses and swimsuits don’t really scream “Merry Christmas from frozen Wisconsin.” The weatherman says we might get snow either tomorrow or Thursday so I’m hoping to get some good ones of the kids with snowflakes in the air. Good luck to you!

I love sending out xmas cards with pictures of my kids!

    In theory.

In practice, I can’t afford a professional photographer, so I end up trying to get a ‘perfect’ shot (what a f’ing joke!) of all four smiling and looking and sitting still and not dirty or crying. In the end, it’s just not worth all the swearing.

I really like GETTING xmas cards, though.

I think those photos are great, actually – especially the second and the last. I usually do my own photo cards, too. Except last year when i set up a nice background, took eleventy-seven photos, picked one, made cards, had them printed and actually ADDRESSED them, and then….

got a huge rush project at work and never managed to get them sent. Nice waste of time and money (not to mention sanity).

I love these photos! The second and third ones are my favorites!

I only get around to doing Christmas cards about once every three years. I swear people think I’m leaving them off my list on the years that I get lazy.

I have sent some so far. I like to, but the past few years I haven’t and a few years before that, I sent them in January. This year I’m being all organized, and missing home, so, cards go. Plus, I loooove getting them!

We send them out and I LOVE LOVE LOVE getting them. Do it! I even save all of them (from the mom who throws out 98% of the artwork our kids bring home). Send it out with the first pic – it’s awsome and totally shows their personalities. One of the best one’s I’ve received is a kid sitting on Santa’s lap and SCREAMING. It was hysterical.

P.S. If you send me one, I’ll send you one!

    Those are adorable!

My husband is in charge of our holiday cards, with mixed results.
One year he ordered them and they arrived super tiny. Like gift-tag sized. The next year, there was a typo in the greeting. Apparently, we wished everyone a “Happppy New Year”. WTF?

But as long as I don’t have to do it, I don’t care.

I’m even slightly jealous that you have two kids who love each other and can have fun together. Maybe I should have given my son a sister!!!
I won’t be jealous when your kids are teenagers!

Haven’t even thought about Christmas cards. Nope – and I am not sure I will even do one either. All that postage gets a bit expensive after a while.

But, I was thinking, as I was looking at those adorable photos of your kiddos – create a montage of those photos…I think that would be a way cuter card then just trying to get that ‘perfect’ photo…

Third – Your kids are adorable. They could be in Gap Kids ads.

I agree… you should do a collage card.

We do our cards with Snapfish every year. Simple.

I also have all of our addresses typed into a file to make labels. And… we have our address labels.

It was work at first (to type in all the addresses) but now I just order photo cards, stuff envelopes, and stick 2 address label and a stamp on each card. Last year I even had Zoe stuffing and sticking.

I’m lazy and still send cards.

Hell no I don’t send holiday cards, but it’s not because I’m lazy.

It’s for the ENVIRONMENT! All the cards I don’t send? Saves trees. All the stamps I don’t drive to the post office to get? Saves gas.

Don’t call yourself lazy. Call yourself a conservationist.

I send out about 100 Christmas cards every year. I know, I know. It’s my thing….I am known for my “creativity” and actually have people that say they can’t wait to see what I’ll come up with every year. I’m such a geek.

    P.S. I can’t believe YOU couldn’t get a good shot…you are an awesome photographer!

What I’ve noticed is that I’m far less picky about other people’s photos than about my own. I AGONIZE over mine, but I get one from someone else where one kid is blinking and another is grimacing and I’m like, “OOOOOOoooo, they sent a photo YAY YAY YAY!” I think that last one would make a GREAT Christmas card photo.

Photocards? SO MUCH EASIER. I don’t even have to address the envelopes if I don’t want to! Total win!

No, I don’t. And I tell people that it’s because I don’t want to use up all that paper and those resources, but really? I’m too lazy to fill them out and too cheap to go buy stamps. I think people are on to me though, I only received 9 cards this year and three of them are from the same family.

Also, I would much rather get candid shots from people, rather than posed stiff ones. Your children are the gorgeous.
